The Scan Is the Hardest Part
Most of the effort in a WebAR campaign goes into the experience, yet the biggest drop-off happens before anyone sees it. If people do not notice the code, do not trust it or do not see why to scan it, the experience is wasted.
What Improves Scan Rates
These principles apply to any WebAR experience launched from print, packaging or signage.
- A clear promise — say what the user will get, not just "scan me"
- Good placement — eye height, good light and no glare
- Adequate size — large enough to scan from a natural distance
- Fast loading — a slow first screen loses people immediately
- Trust cues — a recognisable brand and a plain-language URL fallback

Test in the Real World
Check the code on different phones, in the actual lighting and at the intended distance. Printed codes on curved or shiny packaging often fail in ways the design file does not show.
A short link beneath the code gives people without a scanner a way in.
Build It Into Design
Scan prompts should be part of the creative from the start, not added at the end. We advise agencies on this through our partnership service so the experience and its entry point are designed together.
