Lost Visitors Are Unhappy Visitors
At large attractions, campuses and shopping centres, visitors quickly become disoriented. A well-designed information system helps them find what they want, reduces questions for staff and spreads people around the site.
Mixing Digital and Static
Digital screens are powerful, but a good scheme uses them where they add something. Our information display work usually combines several layers.
- Static signs — permanent directions that never need power or updates
- Interactive maps — touch screens showing routes and facilities
- Live information boards — times, queues, closures and events
- Entrance orientation screens — a quick overview as visitors arrive
- Printed or digital take-away maps — something visitors can carry

Keep Information Honest
Information that is wrong is worse than none. Showing a queue time or a closure means the data behind it must be dependable, with a clear process for updating it. If the data cannot be trusted, leave it off.
Design for accessibility as well, with high contrast, large type, step-free route options and audio support where appropriate.
Plan the Whole Journey
Walk the route as a first-time visitor and note every decision point. Good wayfinding is planned from that map, not added screen by screen. Agencies and venues can bring us in early through our partner service.
