Three Routes, Different Trade-Offs
Almost every activation can be delivered by renting an existing piece of kit, buying equipment, or commissioning something new. Each makes sense in different situations, and the cheapest at first glance is not always the cheapest overall.
How They Compare
These points come up in most conversations we have through our partner service.
- Rent — low commitment and quick, but limited customisation and branding
- Buy — good value if used often, with storage, maintenance and upgrades to manage
- Commission — a unique result built around your message, with higher cost and lead time
- Hybrid — a standard base with custom content or housing
- Licence — paying for software or content for a set period

Questions to Ask
How many times will it be used? How distinctive must it be? Who will store, transport and maintain it? What happens if it breaks mid-event? A one-off launch usually suits rental or commission, while a touring road show may justify buying.
Add the hidden costs: freight, setup, crew, insurance and spares.
Decide With the Whole Cost in View
Compare total cost across the expected life, not just the first invoice. We are happy to give honest advice on which route fits, and will say if hiring a standard product serves you better than a bespoke installation.
