Talking Characters Are Tempting
A character who greets visitors and answers questions sounds exciting. Done well it feels magical, but done badly it frustrates people, says the wrong thing or fails in a noisy room.
Realistic Uses
Start with a narrow job and build outwards. These are the approaches we discuss in our installation projects.
- Guided tours — a character who introduces exhibits
- Frequently asked questions — answers within a defined topic
- Scripted storytelling — pre-written dialogue with reactions
- Language help — greeting visitors in their own language
- Game hosts — announcing rounds and scores

Know the Limits
Speech recognition struggles in loud venues, and open-ended conversation can go off course. Set boundaries on topics, filter responses and provide a fallback when the character does not understand.
Plan Safeguards
Public installations need moderation, clear privacy notices and a way to switch the feature off. This is general information, not legal advice. Agencies can discuss feasibility via our partnership programme.
